Today, 25 January, the Donetsk city mayor Aleksandr Luk’yanchenko formally marked the start of the 500 day countdown to the UEFA EURO 2012 kickoff and delivered a speech at the press conference dedicated to Donetsk being prepared to host the tournament.
“The city’s sports infrastructure is 100% ready owing to the efforts of FC Shakhtar and its president Rinat Akhmetov,” the city official stressed in front of the press audience. “More importantly, we were the first ones to test the stadium in reality: during the matches when the venue was full to capacity.”
He also pointed out that UEFA representatives visit Donetsk more frequently lately. The experts monitor different aspects of the city infrastructure preparedness to host EURO 2012 on a monthly basis.
The appearance of the capital of Donbass will undergo further changes, a lot will be done for the foreign guests’ convenience. Thus, on 13 August, 300 days before the tournament, they will present the designs for the reference materials, directories, information stands both in English and Russian.
“By this summer the official website of Donetsk – being the host city for EURO 2012 - will be launched,” Sergei Repin, the head of the EURO 2012 preparations office at Donetsk city council, added.
