The Union of European Football Associations backs up FC Shakhtar's decision to enforce a complete smoking ban at the Donbass Arena which will play host to the UEFA EURO 2012 matches. This message was delivered by Aleksandr Atamanenko, the CEO of Donbass Arena, at the Shakhtar Shows A Red Card To Smoking press conference on 17 March.

“By introducing the ban, we can hardly help those who have smoked for ages. By doing so, we primarily solve the second-hand smoke problem that affects not just our visitors’ comfort, but their health too, in the first place children’s health, our young generation who share a passion for sports. And we take pride in the fact that this approach fully corresponds to European initiatives.”

According to Markiian Lubkivskiy, the Tournament Director Ukraine, UEFA plans to implement numerous social projects within the EURO 2012 framework. One of them is aimed at promoting healthy lifestyle, and this is precisely why the Union fully supports the FC Shakhtar campaign held under the motto “Football And Smoking Are Mutually Exclusive!”
